The 500 most recent system
events (fire, fault, reset, etc.) are stored in an event log which can
be viewed or printed at any time. The log stores a description of the event
along with the time and, where applicable, the zone, address and analogue
value of the device concerned.
The ZXa has two programmable
sounder outputs, while the ZXi and ZXMi have four. All panels provide two
programmable auxiliary relays and full monitoring of external wiring for
open or short circuits.
CONVENTIONAL FIRE DETECTORS
Apollo
Series 60
The Apollo Series 60 range
of low profile conventional fire detectors provides answers for every environment
and are compatible with most control panels. All the detectors in the range
have the same external dimensions and feature an integral LED to give a
visual indication of an alarm state. The mounting base does not contain
any electronic parts which could be damaged during installation.
The complete range is approved
by FOC in the UK and Vds in Germany. The range has been manufactured to
EN54 (BS5445) standard and the polycarbonate casing is VO rated to UL 94.
Optical Smoke Detector
The Apollo Conventional Optical
Smoke Detector consists of a pulsing LED situated in the centre of a labyrinth
which excludes any other light source. A photo-diode is positioned at an
angle to the LED so it does not register the light emitted. When smoke
enters the labyrinth, it scatters the light which is then registered by
the photo-diode. An alarm state is triggered if the following two pulses
are also registered.
To help prevent false alarms,
the Series 60 Optical Smoke Detector contains a daylight filter shielding
the photo-diode from external light that would trigger an alarm condition.
Ionisation Smoke Detector
The Apollo Series 60 Ionisation
Smoke Detector consists of an open outer chamber and a semi-sealed inner
chamber with current flowing between them. When smoke enters the detector,
it reduces the current flow in the outer chamber. This creates a voltage
increase between the two chambers. The voltage is monitored by the electronic
circuitry which triggers the alarm when it reaches a preset threshold.
An integrating version of
the Series 60 detector is also available which requires smoke to
be present at alarm levels for a period of twenty seconds before operating,
therefore making it suitable for use in areas expecting transient, high
levels of smoke.
Fixed Heat detector
is available with preset temperature limits of 65°C or 75°C
The Rise Heat detector
contains two matching thermistors. One is exposed to the ambient temperature
and the other is
sealed. Normally, the two
thermistors are at similar temperatures, but the heat from a fire will
cause the temperature of the exposed thermistor to rise rapidly and trigger
the detector alarm. In the Rate of Rise Heat detector the ratio of thermistor
resistance is monitored electronically and the alarm is triggered if the
ratio exceeds a preset value. These Rate of Rise
detectors are designed to
detect a fire as the temperature increases, but they also feature a fixed
upper temperature safety limit of 60°C should the rate of rise in temperature
be too slow.
Apollo Series 60
Mounting Base
The Series 60 Base
has been designed to allow easy fitting of all Apollo detectors using a
one way only fit.
A base fitted with a diode
on line is available to allow conventional systems to operate correctly
when one or more detectors have been removed.
The series 60 relay base
provides voltage free change over contacts.
ANALOGUE ADDRESSABLE FIRE
DETECTORS Apollo XP95 Series
The Apollo XP95 series analogue
addressable provides a high degree flexibility and reliability.
Each device is uniquely identified
by the control panel via a coded 'X-PERT' card. This card is inserted into
the monitor base and provides simple and speedy installation while avoiding
addressing errors.
lonisation Smoke Monitor
XP95 ionisation smoke monitor
consists of an outer smoke chamber and a semi-sealed inner ionisation chamber.
When smoke enters the ionisation chamber the current flowing through the
chamber reduces and causes a voltage difference between the two chambers.
This voltage difference is monitored by the sensor electronics which triggers
an alarm condition.
Optical Smoke Monitor
The optical smoke monitor
uses the same case as the ionisation monitor and is differentiated by the
clear indicator LED.
Inside the detector there
is a diode producing infra-red light and a photo-diode. When smoke enters
the monitor, the infra-red light is scattered causing it to be registered
by the photo-diode and produce an alarm condition.
Temperature Monitors -
The XP95 fixed temperature
heat monitors utilise a single thermistor network to provide a voltage
proportional to the temperature of the outside air. Standard and high temperature
versions are available which have thresholds of 55°C and 90°C
respectively.
The standard monitors temperature
response allows for use as an EN54 grade 2 rate of rise heat detector.
Manual Call Points
Available in standard or
weather- proof versions, XP95 manual call points utilise DIL addressing
with the interrupt feature providing fast location reporting of the call
point.
XP95 Isolator
XP95 isolators located along
the length of the detection loops will prevent a short circuit from completely
disabling that loop.
In the event of a short circuit
only the section between isolators where the short circuit occurred will
be disabled. When the short circuit has been repaired, the isolator will
automatically restore the disabled section.
Also in stock Hochiki
ASX range and Ziton series 6 and 7 devices.
MANUAL CALL POINTS
KAC indoor call points are
available as either semi-flush or surface mounted units.
Manufactured from modified
polyphenylene oxide, indoor call points are sealed to IP44. For use in
special environments, a surface mounted waterproof call point, sealed to
IP67, is available.
AIl call point models have
an operating temperature range of -30°C to + 70°C and fully comply
with BS 5839, Part 2.

and WR2072/SR are fitted with normally open switch contacts which close
in alarm condition.
Call point models WR2001,
WR2001/SR and WR4001 provide single pole change over switching. Rated up
to 250V AC, they can be used in either normally open or normally closed
circuits.
Callpoint models WR3072-680Q
(Installer Series) are designed for ease of installation by virtue of terminal
backboxes allowing first fix of system cabling. The callpoint unit is provided
with flying leads to simplify second fix during commissioning.
Coloured Call Points
Only red call points can
be used as fire call points. However, all models are also available in
white, yellow, blue or green for the operation of ancillary devices, e.g.
emergency door release.
FIRE DETECTORS Optical
Beam Detectors
Fireray 1401 and 2000
The Fireray optical beam
smoke detector comprises an infra red transmitter which projects a modulated
infra-red beam to a receiver unit. The received signal is analysed by a
low level controller, which can be positioned up to 250 metres from the
receiver and will activate a fire condition should smoke be present.
With a range of 100 metres
and the wide angle beam providing coverage of up to 1,400m2, the Fireray
is ideal for any large area application.
Iinstallation Requirements
To conform with BS 5839,
Part 1, the transmitter and receiver units should be mounted between 600mrn
and 800mm below the ceiling height or pitch. A line of sight of 100 metres
or less is required between the two units, where the first 10 metres from
the transmitter is protected by point detection. A coverage area of 7.5
metres is allowable either side of a central line for lateral detection
under a flat ceiling. For pitched ceilings this may be increased by 1%
for every degree of pitch up to a maximum of 25%.
BeamMaster 3
The Guardall BeamMaster 3
is a combined optical smoke and heat detector. Providing coverage of up
to 100 metres, the BeamMaster is ideal for large premises and is particularly
suited to long, high buildings.
The detector status can be
monitored via a low level indicator which provides LED indication of heat
alarm, smoke alarm, fault and normal operating conditions. The indicator
panel is powered from the receiver and also features a remote keyswitch
reset facility for detector testing.
Connecting Beam Detectors
to an Alarm Panel
In order to interface the
Fireray or BeamMaster with a conventional fire panel, zonal wiring must
be configured to close the fire relay on an alarm condition. When closed,
the fire relay must deliver the required panel switch resistance to the
detection circuit. The fault relay should allow zonal wiring to go open
circuit in order to activate a zone fault.
