Orwell Park School protected with EMS wire free fire detection system.

Radio fire systems are simple to install.  Need no wiring between detection devices and very little disruption of the premises during installation.  Packed with features that leave most "hard wired" conventional systems behind, these systems offer true addressable information with almost total user control over set-up and operation.

Systems comply to BS5839 Part 4 and EN54-2 & 4

EMS Fire

The EMS Group has been developing and manufacturing radio components in excess of 30 years and has supplied over 50,000 systems to the security and fire industry for installation in some of the most prestigious and important buildings in the UK.

Recognized for the highest quality radio technology available within the industry, EMS developed (probably the most advanced of its type in the world) a unique digitally processed analogue addressable radio fire detection system 5000.

System 5000 was first introduced into the UK market in 1997 after 4 years’ research. There are now a substantial number of installations ranging through universities, commercial premises, schools, industrial sites and heritage buildings. Some systems are for temporary protection whilst the greater majority have been installed to overcome the problems associated with cabling.

There are a wide variety of controllers, transponders, detectors, call points, radio sounders, radio interface units available to achieve economical system design for any type of application, whether it is a completely new fire system, an extension to an existing system, temporary protection or changing standards. System 5000 will provide the economic solution.

System 5000 uniquely operates on frequencies, which avoid signal clash, and ensures substantial range for command signals.
Device reporting VHF 173 MHz
Command signalling UHF 459 MHz
Panel communication UHF 459 MHz

Site coding, quality design of transmitters and experience with 50,000 installations ensures no cross interference with other fire, intruder or nurse call systems or interference with/from mobile telephones, 2 way telephone systems, radar or microwave installations.

Attempted deliberate interference is immediately reported as a system fault.
All System 5000 radio components are fully tested and approved by the DTI Radio Communications Agency to MPT 1305 and MPT 1328.
Components are designed and manufactured by EMS to ISO 9001. All components are CE tested and approved. Controllers are millennium compliant.

System 5000 conforms to BS 5839 and EN54 Parts 2 and 4.
To meet the ever increasing requirement for system flexibility, the main controller's range is available in  4 models, each of which can be supported by remote modem, repeater and mimic panels, transponders and/or remote receivers.

This range of controllers provide the system designer with solutions for every fire alarm application due to the radio "wirefree" communication employed.

The reliability of an analogue addressable fire alarm is primarily based on the automatic detection devices incorporated into the system. In the development of System 5000 Ziton analogue smoke and heat detectors were uniquely designed to operate at 3.4V.
The wide variety of installations protected by these detectors and the flexibility to the designer of the sensitivity settings were major factors in our selection.
All detectors are in a 3-part set of sensor, baseplate and processor/transmitter/battery board. Detectors report to the controller on VHF 173 MHz with verification (6-9 minutes), contamination levels, remaining battery life and radio signal strength. The battery boards have a typical life of 5 years.

The standard Clifford & Snell sounder is equipped with a VHF radio transmitter - for regular reporting purpose but receives command signals from the controller on the more powerful UHF 459 MHz frequency. This reduces the signal time by ensuring more direct communications.
Audibility is 96 dBA at 1 metre. With auto-shut off (adjustable) pre-programmed for 30 minutes.
Radio sounders can be supplied in weather-resistant housing.
The radio sounder can be supplied with the facility for connection to 2 slave sounders. This device is designed for bedroom-to-bedroom and room-to-corridor applications, such as hotels etc.
The sounder is supplied either as a combined sounder/strobe unit or with strobe only for public places.

The transmitter, processor and battery boards are incorporated within the standard KAC break-glass unit.
The call point is fully addressable and reports every 6-9 minutes to the controller. The unit is complete with anti-tamper mechanism which immediately reports a fault situation.
The battery board is complete with batteries to provide a typical 5-year life, including weekly and 1/2 yearly tests.
The unit can also be supplied in weather-resistant housing.

All radio fire controllers incorporate the EMS pager transmitter as an integral standard feature. The paging facility is primarily available to the user for day-to-day management information if and when the system is activated.
This facility is also used in the radio survey, for commissioning and for on-going maintenance of the system.
Information that appears on the display of the panel is automatically transmitted onto a 4 Line x 92 character display on the message pager.
